Leadership
The leadership team comprises of Ian Aitken, Wayne Jordan and Markus Kaps, who are all highly experienced in their fields. Their experience is grounded in construction, having worked for major contractors, property developers and infrastructure providers. Collectively, the Key Projects leadership team have an in-depth knowledge of the property industry as well as its challenges, and take a hands-on approach to resolving development obstacles.
Ian Aitken
With more than four decades of experience in property development, construction, and infrastructure delivery, Ian Aitken is a highly accomplished development and project management professional with a proven track record across South Africa and the African continent. As a Director at Key Projects since 2003, he has successfully led numerous residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use developments from inception through planning, procurement, construction, and final handover.
Ian’s career includes executive leadership roles with Concor Construction and Civcon Civil Engineering, where he managed large multidisciplinary teams, complex stakeholder environments, and major capital projects. His expertise spans property development, land change management, infrastructure delivery, procurement, contract management, cost control, and strategic planning.
Commercially astute and results-driven, Ian is recognised for guiding developers, investors, and landowners through complex development processes, delivering projects on time, within budget, and aligned with long-term investment objectives
Markus Kaps
Markus holds a BSc in Construction Management and an MBA from Henley Management College. He is a registered Professional Construction Project Manager (Pr.CPM) with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) and brings more than 25 years of experience in property development and project management, with a particular focus on residential apartment developments in Cape Town.
His career is built on a strong foundation in construction management, having spent 14 years in the construction industry as a contracts and regional manager. He also gained significant international experience during seven years in the United Kingdom, where he worked at Heathrow Airport as a Project Leader on Terminal 5 and played a key role in the development of the airport’s long-term expansion strategy.
Markus is an experienced development and project manager with expertise in the feasibility, planning, assembly, design and delivery phases of complex developments. His specialist knowledge includes programme management, project controls, stakeholder engagement, relationship-based procurement, large-scale project delivery, and strategic infrastructure planning. He has successfully led numerous residential, commercial, mixed-use and infrastructure projects, delivering exceptional value for clients across Southern Africa.
Wayne Jordan
Wayne holds a BSc Building degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and an MBA from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom. He brings more than 35 years of hands-on construction and project management experience, having successfully delivered a broad range of projects across the residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure sectors. Wayne is also a Fellow of the Association of Arbitrators (Southern Africa) and serves as a practising adjudicator and arbitrator, providing valuable expertise in dispute resolution and contract administration within the construction industry.
Throughout his career, Wayne has managed contracts ranging from large-scale residential developments to major industrial and commercial projects, including the Domestic Terminal at Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport. His extensive experience in contract administration, project delivery, stakeholder management, construction leadership, and dispute resolution provides clients with confidence that projects will be executed efficiently, professionally, and in accordance with industry best practice.
Having held senior leadership positions as Contracts Manager and Regional Manager at Concor, one of South Africa’s leading construction firms, Wayne has developed a strong reputation for delivering complex projects within demanding operational environments. His combination of technical expertise, commercial acumen, strategic leadership, and recognised arbitration credentials enables him to successfully guide a diverse range of developments from planning through to completion.
